CHM 3120

A. Course Description

CHM3120 is an upper level chemistry course focused on quantitative chemical analysis (“how much of a molecule is in something”) and the use of analytical tools in chemical research. The subjects we will cover include measurements, statistics, experimental error, solution chemistry, equilibrium, titrations, and such analytical tools as electrochemistry, spectrophotometry, spectrometry, chromatography, and electrophoresis. The class will discuss both theory and practice. Most scientific jobs either in the private sector (biotech/pharma/consulting) or the public sector (EPA/DEA/ FDA/FBI/CDC etc.) utilize quantitative analysis as a major aspect of job duties. Therefore the material that will be covered in this class will be important for students interested in pursuing such occupations.
